QCSO – The Resurrection
April 2, 2016 @ 8:00 pm
MAHLER Symphony #2 – Linh Kauffman, soprano; Adriana Zabala, mezzo
Mark Russell Smith Leads Mahler’s massive and moving Symphony #2 capping the 101st season with soprano Linh Kauffman, mezzo-soprano Adriana Zabala, Handel Oratorio Society and the Quad City Choral Arts. Because of the size and expense of Mahler’s Symphony #2, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience for many concert-goers.
In the Christian Church, Easter is the most important and oldest festival celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ and it is widely believed that the most heavenly resurrection music ever composed was by Gustav Mahler. First performed in 1895, Mahler’s Symphony #2, now known as the “resurrection symphony” is rarely staged as more than 100 musicians and 100 choral members are required to stage this magnificent performance. However, this Easter season, the Quad City Symphony Orchestra will stage The Resurrection Symphony for the first time in 27 years. You don’t have to be a Christian or even religious to gain a transformative spiritual experience from this awe-inspiring and life-changing symphony. For most, it truly is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. We welcome you to join us.
