Dropkick Murphys – Shipping Up to Boston Sequence

Happy St. Patrick’s Day Weekend to all!

In the spirit of this American/Irish holiday, I’ve chose a fun minor scale sequence from an American Celtic Punk band called the Dropkick Murphy’s.

This group rose to fame by writing music for Boston based sports teams in the early 2000s, and a number of those tunes got picked up by video games and movies. I have probably heard their first big hit “Tessie” thousands of times while I was playing MVP Baseball 2005.

This sequence is a fantastic technical exercise to groove your minor scales. Keep the tempo lively and bouncing forward, always aiming for the next downbeat. Try different articulations, and slur patterns to take this to the next level. With enough variation and speed, this tune can get Wicked HAaaaad.

Also for the record, the beverage in my green bottle is no less than 95% water….

Happy Practicing!!
